We bought the gas powered nailer when we had to build work platforms and paths in a 30 inch high crawl space that had a circumference of several hundred feet. We wanted a gun that shot the same nails as our pneumatic nailers (plastic collated, 21 degree).
The crawl space was nasty dirty with 100 years of dust plus fire damage. The gun worked flawlessly. A nice side effect is the flash of "lightning" that comes out of the head in a dark crawl space when the fuel ignites.
The firing cycle time is not bad, though nothing like a pneumatic. The cycle is fine for wall framing, slow for nailing a deck. The short magazine makes it easy to get into tight framing coupled with the slant design. The magazine holds about one and one-half clip of nails (about 45 nails); you reload frequently. It has a dry fire lockout so you don't waste fuel when the clip is out of nails.
It would be great if someone could figure out an indicator to tell you the estimated remaining life in the fuel cell.
The rafter hook is practical and useful. It folds out of the way and flush when not in use.
The carrying case is decent. It has dedicated space for the gun, charger, battery, allen wrench and two spare fuel cells. There is additional room around the charger for a second battery. There is unused space in the case where it would be useful if Hitachi molded in a storage box for the tops to fuel cells and the triangular inserts so that they don't rattle around inside the case. Be careful with the latches, they come out easily and can get lost.
Overall, we like the gun. The benefits include no hose and compressor to lug, compact size, angle design to get into tight spots, and a good case. Potential improvements include a storage box inside the case and a slightly longer tray that will take two full clips.

Sometimes it works great, pounding out nail after nail, but most of the time it's : Press against wood, fan fires up, pull the trigger , nothing happens, pull trigger again, nothing, pull away from wood, gas "exhales", repeat 5-6789-10 times until the planets line up and the thing finally decides to grant you a driven nail.
I suggest buying it if you have the patience of a monk or you are a certified Hitachi technician looking for something to tinker with on your spare time.

This is my first gas powered nailer. Seems to be a great nailer. The only thing I would have changed was...It has plastic lined nail strips I would have liked a paper lined nail strip better after I now know how much I get hit by flying plastic peices.

It works as well as Paslode and it can drive spiral full head nails, where Pasload lacks that feature. The nails are a little bit harder to get (not available through big box retailers in Ontario, Canada) and it would help to have extra battery in the package.

First unit had a lot of problems, mostly not firing. Second unit has worked fairly well, not had very much trouble at all.

I can't believe what I paid for this !!!
What a deal !
No more lugging the compressor and 50ft of air line.
It drives 3 1/2" ring shank galvanized nails with no problem.
Don't miss out on this one.
