My only complaint is the chuck, which requires two hands to tighten, and the smaller ring, close to the unit, is quite small and difficult to grip for serious tightening.

All items are mint. There were no cosmetic blemishes. However, batteries are almost dead. Fully charged batteries can drive only four 2" screws before being completely drained. Both batteries behave like this and need to be replaced.
Now, I have to contact Hitachi to get replacement batteries. I am not sure if Hitachi will replace batteries.
There is a reason why they sell these tools for less. Don't expect new or almost new batteries. I gambled and I lost.

I love this little cordless drill. I have several in my wood shop. That way, I do not have to change the bits. The only downside is that the batteries are noticeably weaker after a year. Not much of an issue compared to the cost of a Lithium battery drill. You can buy an extra drill and 2 batt for about the cost of a replacement batt for a dewalt

This is my third Hitachi 14.4 NICAD drill in 8 years. I use this drill for my job and the batteries seem to last several years, more than any other NICAD product I've owned. I also own a Bosch 18volt, Ridgid 12volt, Hitachi 18volt Lithium, and a Hitachi 18volt NICAD drill, but I find myself always going back to use the 14.4 drill because of it's light weight and it's ability to perform in sub-freezing temperatures (the lithium batteries are useless below 30 degrees), and it's ability to "warn" me when the batteries are about to run out. I don't enjoy that feature with lithium, and when I'm doing work 20 feet up a ladder, it can be valuable.
